Botox®

Botox® is a registered brand name — not the name of the treatment. It refers to the botulinum toxin type A product manufactured by Allergan (AbbVie), and is the product used to perform Anti-Wrinkle Treatments at Star Aesthetic Centre.

In brief

Botox® is the registered brand name of botulinum toxin type A manufactured by Allergan (AbbVie). It is the product used to perform Anti-Wrinkle Treatments — temporarily relaxing facial muscles to smooth expression lines. Botox® is the brand; Anti-Wrinkle Treatment is the service.

Botox® is a brand name, not a treatment name

Many people use 'Botox' as a catch-all term for any anti-wrinkle injection — much like 'Hoover' became a generic term for vacuum cleaners. In reality, Botox® is a registered trademark owned by Allergan (now part of AbbVie). The active ingredient in Botox® is Botulinum Toxin Type A — a purified protein that temporarily relaxes specific facial muscles to smooth expression lines.

Other brands containing the same active ingredient include Dysport® (Ipsen) and Xeomin® (Merz). All three work in the same way — they differ slightly in formulation, unit dosing, and onset profile. At Star Aesthetic Centre, Dr. Bangalee selects the most appropriate product for each patient's individual anatomy and treatment goals.

The treatment is called Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

Star Aesthetic Centre refers to the procedure as an 'Anti-Wrinkle Treatment' because the treatment name should describe the service — not the brand of product used to perform it. This is standard in medicine: a surgeon performs a 'knee replacement', not a 'DePuy procedure' (the implant brand). The brand of botulinum toxin used is a clinical decision.

This framing matters for patients: you are purchasing a medical procedure performed by a qualified physician, not simply a branded product. Dr. Bangalee's expertise in anatomy, dosing, and technique — not the brand alone — determines the safety and quality of the result.

What Botox® (Anti-Wrinkle Treatment) treats

The Anti-Wrinkle Treatment using Botox® is most commonly used to address the forehead (horizontal lines), glabella (frown lines between the brows), and lateral canthal area (crow's feet). It is also used for bunny lines on the nose, lip lines, a dimpled chin, neck bands, brow lifting, jaw slimming (masseter reduction), and hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) — where Botox® blocks nerve signals to sweat glands.

Results appear within 3–5 days and reach full effect at 10–14 days. Duration is typically 3–5 months depending on the treatment area, metabolism, and units administered. With consistent treatment every 3–4 months, many patients find results gradually last longer.

At Star Aesthetic Centre

At Star Aesthetic Centre, all Anti-Wrinkle Treatments using botulinum toxin (Botox®) are performed exclusively by Dr. Rajeev Bangalee (MBBCh). Every treatment begins with a full consultation — discussing your concerns, assessing your facial anatomy, and creating a precise treatment plan. Photography is taken before and reviewed at a complimentary 2-week follow-up. Dr. Bangalee's approach is always natural-looking: refreshed, not frozen.

Frequently asked questions

Is Botox® the same as an Anti-Wrinkle Treatment?

Botox® is the brand of product used; Anti-Wrinkle Treatment is the name of the service. It is like the difference between 'Panadol' (the brand) and 'paracetamol tablet' (the medicine). At Star Aesthetic Centre, we use botulinum toxin products to perform Anti-Wrinkle Treatments — the result is temporary relaxation of expression muscles to smooth wrinkles.

Is Botox® safe?

Yes, when administered by a qualified medical practitioner. Botulinum toxin has been used in both medical and aesthetic practice for over 30 years. It is approved by the FDA (USA) and SAHPRA (South Africa). At the doses used in aesthetic treatments, serious complications are extremely rare. Dr. Bangalee is a registered medical doctor with specific training in aesthetic medicine.

How long do results last?

Results from an Anti-Wrinkle Treatment using Botox® typically last 3–5 months. First-time patients may find results closer to 3 months initially. With regular repeat treatments, the targeted muscles weaken slightly over time and results can last progressively longer.

Can I have an Anti-Wrinkle Treatment if I'm pregnant?

No. All botulinum toxin treatments are contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Please inform Dr. Bangalee before treatment if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
