Excessive Sweating Treatment (Hyperhidrosis)

Reclaim Your Confidence — Medical Hyperhidrosis Treatment in Durban

You check your shirt before every meeting. You choose dark colours every morning — not by style preference, but by necessity. You've declined handshakes. Avoided certain seats. Quietly planned your life around your sweating. This is not weakness. This is not anxiety you just need to manage better. This is hyperhidrosis — a medical condition that affects millions of people and has a highly effective, long-lasting medical solution. At Star Aesthetic Centre, a single 30-minute treatment delivers 6 to 9 months of complete relief — changing how you show up at work, in relationships, and in every room you walk into.

What is Excessive Sweating Treatment (Hyperhidrosis)?

Excessive sweating is one of the most under-treated medical conditions — partly because people feel embarrassed to raise it, and partly because many people are not aware that medical treatment options exist.

If your sweating is unpredictable, occurs regardless of temperature, and affects your daily life — the events you attend, the clothes you wear, the work you take on — it may meet the clinical criteria for primary focal hyperhidrosis: a condition where the nerve signals to the sweat glands are chronically overactive, far beyond what normal temperature regulation requires.

The professional impact is significant and rarely spoken about openly. Research shows people with hyperhidrosis report lower confidence in job interviews, reduced willingness to take on client-facing roles, and real impact on career decisions. Whether that is your experience is something to discuss at your assessment.

At Star Aesthetic, we treat hyperhidrosis using Botulinum Toxin (Botox®) — the medical treatment with the strongest evidence base for this condition. Injected into the underarms, palms, or soles, the toxin blocks the nerve signal to the sweat glands, substantially reducing sweat production in patients who respond, commonly for 6–9 months, from a single 30-minute session. How much reduction is achieved, and how long it lasts, varies between patients.

How it Works

1

Consultation & Clinical Assessment

Dr. Bangalee reviews your sweating history, confirms the hyperhidrosis diagnosis, and discusses which areas to treat in one comprehensive appointment.
2

Starch-Iodine Mapping

A simple, quick test that most patients find comfortable precisely maps the areas of heaviest sweating activity — the injection grid is drawn to treat exactly where it's needed, not broadly.
3

Topical Anaesthetic (Optional)

Anaesthetic cream is available for the underarm area if preferred. For palms and feet, a nerve block is offered for maximum comfort.
4

Injections

Multiple small, precisely placed injections of Botulinum Toxin across the mapped zone using a very fine needle. The procedure takes 15–20 minutes.
5

Immediate Return to Life

You dress normally and return to work, meetings, and life immediately after the procedure. No recovery. No visible signs of treatment.

Expected Results & Timeline

Days 5–7: Initial reduction in sweating becomes noticeable. Day 14: Peak effect — sweating in treated areas is usually much reduced, though the degree varies and a small number of patients respond poorly. Duration: commonly 6–9 months — generally longer than for cosmetic use. Many patients report a meaningful difference to their professional and social confidence.

Downtime & Aftercare:

Return to work immediately. Results last 6–9 months.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my sweating is medically excessive?

If your sweating occurs regardless of temperature or exercise, is unpredictable, affects both sides equally, and interferes with your daily life or emotional wellbeing — these are the diagnostic criteria for primary hyperhidrosis. Dr. Bangalee will conduct a clinical assessment to confirm the diagnosis and recommend the right treatment approach.

How long does Botox for sweating last?

For hyperhidrosis, Botox typically lasts 6–9 months — significantly longer than the 3–5 months for cosmetic facial Botox. This is because the sweat glands require higher doses for sustained effect, and there is no dynamic muscle activity to break down the toxin faster.

Will Botox for sweating affect my health — do I need to sweat to regulate temperature?

No. The body has 2–4 million sweat glands — treating a small area of underarms, hands, or feet blocks only a tiny fraction of total sweat capacity. Your body's overall thermoregulatory capacity is completely unaffected. You will still sweat normally everywhere else.

Is the treatment painful?

Underarm injections are well-tolerated, with mild stinging at each injection point. Hands and feet are more sensitive areas — we offer a nerve block for palmar treatment. Most patients say the procedure is much more comfortable than anticipated.

Can excessive sweating come back after Botox?

Yes — the treatment is temporary, lasting 6–9 months. As Botox gradually wears off, sweating returns to its previous level. Repeat treatment restores the same degree of relief. There is no evidence that Botox becomes less effective with repeated treatments over time.

Will I have compensatory sweating in other areas after treatment?

A small percentage of patients experience a mild increase in sweating in adjacent areas — this is more common with very extensive treatment. Dr. Bangalee manages this risk through careful, precise dosing.

Does medical aid cover hyperhidrosis Botox?

Some medical aids provide benefit for clinically diagnosed hyperhidrosis (ICD-10 code R61). We recommend contacting your scheme directly and requesting pre-authorisation. We can provide all necessary clinical documentation to support your claim.

Can I use deodorant after the treatment?

Yes — as usual. Botox does not interact with antiperspirant or deodorant. Many patients switch to a lighter deodorant once treatment is effective, as heavy antiperspirant is no longer necessary.

How quickly can I book for excessive sweating treatment?

Contact us at +27 (0)31 573 1325 or info@staraesthetic.site. We will book a consultation and typically treat in the same appointment if you are medically suitable. Allow 2 weeks for full effect before any important event.

Is this the same Botox used for wrinkles?

Yes — the same Botulinum Toxin Type A. The difference is technique and target: for hyperhidrosis, small doses are injected intradermally (into the skin) at closely spaced intervals across the sweat zone, rather than deeper into muscles as with cosmetic Botox.

Who Is This For?

  • Anyone whose sweating is excessive, unpredictable, or quietly limiting their professional or social life.
  • People who plan their wardrobe, seating, and daily schedule around avoiding visible sweat.
  • Those who have tried prescription-strength antiperspirants and found them inadequate or short-lived.
  • Professionals who avoid handshakes, presentations, or client meetings because of sweating.
  • Those with sweaty palms that affect professional interactions, writing, or using devices.
  • Anyone who has been managing this alone for years and is ready to stop managing and start living freely.
