NeoStrata

NeoStrata is a pharmaceutical skincare brand co-founded by the dermatologists who first patented the clinical use of Alpha Hydroxy Acids — giving it one of the most credible scientific foundations in professional skincare.

In brief

NeoStrata is a pharmaceutical-grade skincare brand founded by the scientists who first patented clinical applications of Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). Its glycolic acid and PHA formulations treat ageing, pigmentation, acne, and rough skin texture with strong clinical backing.

About NeoStrata

NeoStrata was co-founded by Dr. Eugene Van Scott and Dr. Ruey Yu — the dermatologists who discovered and patented AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) in the 1970s. Their research established glycolic acid, lactic acid, and other AHAs as clinically effective ingredients for skin renewal, hydration, and anti-ageing. NeoStrata's entire product philosophy is built on this original science.

The brand offers three core ranges: Skin Active (anti-ageing and firming), Clarify (acne and congestion), and Restore (sensitive and compromised skin). All formulations are fragrance-free and tested for sensitive skin compatibility.

AHAs and PHAs — the NeoStrata difference

Glycolic acid (an AHA) is NeoStrata's signature active — used across multiple products for exfoliation, cell renewal, collagen stimulation, and pigmentation fading. For patients who find glycolic acid too stimulating, NeoStrata's gluconolactone products offer the same benefits with significantly lower irritation potential.

Gluconolactone is a polyhydroxy acid (PHA) — a larger molecule that works more slowly and gently on the skin surface, making it ideal for sensitive skin, reactive skin, and those beginning their active skincare journey. NeoStrata's PHA formulations are among the most recommended for post-procedure maintenance and sensitive skin types.

At Star Aesthetic Centre

NeoStrata is stocked at Star Aesthetic Centre as a core medical-grade brand — particularly recommended as a home-maintenance protocol for patients receiving chemical peels. The AHA products complement in-clinic exfoliation and extend results between sessions. NeoStrata is also a strong recommendation for patients managing acne, congestion, or early sun damage.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use NeoStrata with retinol?

AHAs and retinol both increase skin cell turnover. Using them simultaneously can cause excessive irritation, dryness, and sensitivity — especially for new users. It is generally advisable to alternate: retinol on some nights, AHA on others. Dr. Bangalee can advise the right protocol for your skin.

Is NeoStrata suitable for dark skin tones?

Yes — particularly the PHA (gluconolactone) range, which offers the benefits of AHA exfoliation with much lower irritation risk. Darker skin tones are more susceptible to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation from irritation, so starting gently and using SPF 50+ daily is essential.
