How SkinCeuticals Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier works — the science

Most hyaluronic acid products work by depositing HA molecules on the skin surface where they draw moisture from the environment — effective, but limited. The Hyaluronic Acid Intensifier takes a different approach: its 10% Proxylane complex stimulates the skin's own biosynthesis of hyaluronic acid by upregulating the expression of HAS2 (hyaluronan synthase 2), the enzyme responsible for producing HA in the dermis. In clinical trials, the formula increased skin's own HA levels by up to 30% versus a control.

The 1.3% HA complex in the formula contains both high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid. High molecular weight HA forms a hydrating film on the skin surface to immediately reduce transepidermal water loss; low molecular weight HA penetrates deeper into the epidermis to hydrate from within. Together with 2% Licorice Root Extract — which also has anti-inflammatory and mild brightening properties — the formula delivers immediate, layered, and long-term hydration that outperforms simple HA topicals.
